Ryan’s Metal Reviews: Metallica is back to kill ’em all!!

Obey your master, because Metallica is back in the game. They just released their tenth album a few days ago, and it is once again in a heavy metal style that is reminiscent of the classic albums. The album is just a pure thrasher. This record, is another holy gift for all of the true metalheads around the world. The album titled, Hardwired…To Self Destruct contains 12 songs that collectively last over 70 minutes, not even including songs on the deluxe album’s second disc. The deluxe album includes one more original Metallica song, four cover tracks, originally released by other metal bands, and nine live versions of classic Metallica classics. The second disc for the deluxe edition by itself adds about another 80 minutes to the record.

Metallica formed their own record label in 2012, known as Blackened Records. The band has released there newest album on this lable. Regardless of what label their record is on, this new album will be the greatest hardcore thrash metal album from Metallica since Master of Puppets, which is one of their most successful albums selling over 500,000 copies worldwide.

One of my favorite songs from this LP is entitled “Hardwired”. It is filled with punk style angst and hardcore metal riffing, which are two key elements of thrash metal. Metallica stated that this album is different from albums in their early days like Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning, and they are experimenting a little bit with their style. Despite the experimentations in style, once you hear this song in particular, the classic elements of Metallica style thrash metal will be evident. The song, lasting only 3 minutes and 11 seconds, works as a fast short opener for the album. Well, they certainly did more than a good job, as this album is a hit. What else do you expect from Metallica? They are truly the master of puppets!!
