The Avonworth Boys’ Cross Country team continued its dominance today as they won their second straight invitational of the season, this time in Hershey, PA. The team entered the race ranked third in the state, and they were the top ranked team registered for the invitational.
Amidst a thundering stampede of runners as the gun went off, a herd of Antelopes delivered with a resounding 41-point win over runner-up Elk Lake. In the process, they also defeated the reigning State Champion Saegertown Panthers by 73 points.
Avonworth’s top three runners, seniors Adam Joyce and Andrew Domencic, and sophomore Michael Noethiger packed it in with a mere four second spread, each receiving medals for their top 20 performances. Juniors Colton Fritts and Kenny Baurle came through with top 50 performances as well. Senior Kyle Crilley and sophomore Alex Domencic battled it out over the last straightaway as each of them finished the race under 20 minutes.
“Before the race, I said a little prayer, and I think sometimes God says ‘yes,'” said Andrew Domencic following his team’s victory, “I’m thankful I get to share this with such great teammates and great friends. They motivate me every day, and our performance here shows how much we’ve grown as a team and how much we still can grow together.”
Kyle Crilley also was excited, stating, “It’s been a great season so far, lots of success and lots of fun, and our win at Hershey shows how much work we’ve put in.”
