
On Friday, August 29th, 2014, about 350 students gathered in the auditorium to see and hear about the handful of changes at Avonworth High School.
Students entered the auditorium to the sounds of the AHS marching band led by new conductor Mr. Will Guess. A trumpet player and graduate of Penn Hills High School and Duquesne University, Student Council President Billie Jo Richardson introduced him to loud applause before sharing that he is a lover of soul food, which brought a noticeable amount of laughter.
Also,new to the school is Mrs. Emily Claire, the new Assistant Principal.
“We all want the students to come to the school with the idea of respect,” said Claire while explaining dress code enforcement and revised tardy and technology policies.
Student Council launched a hashtag, #ahslife, to make it easier to reach the group and show events that students care about.
Central Blood Bank representatives shared a video to highlight an upcoming blood drive on September 25th. “The inconvenience is worth the outcome,” they suggested about donating blood.
