After a very competitive season, the Girls Volleyball teams’ record overall (excluding playoffs) is 13 wins and 4 losses (13-4). Their first round of WPIAL playoffs was October 24, 2019, against the Waynesburg Central Raiders. It was a very intense and back and forth game with Avonworth coming out on top winning 3 out of the maximum 5 sets.
The initial thoughts of two players Sarah Neal and Rowen Dziubek were that they felt very confident that they were going to win.
“I definitely think we’re going to do well. We saw (went against) Waynesburg in a tournament and I think we’ll be fine.” Commented Dziubek. They both confirmed that they did, in fact, win against them in a tournament hosted by Moon High School. “We’ve seen a lot of strong competition this year through tournaments, so I think we have a really good shot tonight.” Commented Neal.
The Avonworth volleyball team will go against the Frazier Commodores on October 28th in round two of the WPIAL playoffs.
Senior Sarah Mcadams said that “Frazier is a strong team but I believe that if our team works together and fights hard enough that we can come out on top. We have not played them (Frazier) this year and I don’t believe we have played them in years past.” Unlike their first-round opponent Waynesburg Central High school.
