COVID-19 Announcement
Important Update Regarding COVID-19 and School Closure
Dear Avonworth Parents and Caregivers,
As you are aware, the crisis related to COVID-19 has been and continues to be a very fluid and evolving situation. The Avonworth School District has continued to monitor the situation and has remained in close contact with health officials at the Allegheny County Health Department. We have also continued to be attentive to the guidance provided by the health professionals and scientists from organizations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization, National Institute of Health (NIH), and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA-DOH).
This morning, our administrative team participated in a webinar with Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera, officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. The purpose of this briefing was to provide important information and guidance for school officials in order for us to keep our constituents safe.
Additionally, all superintendents from Allegheny County met today following the web meeting with the Secretary of Education. As a result of these meetings, the Avonworth School District’s buildings will be closed beginning on Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020.

A page will be created on our website to house all information, communication, and resources related to COVID-19 and our District’s response.
I make this decision with the health and welfare of our students, staff and the entire school community in mind. I recognize the measures the District is taking will cause disruption to our families, staff, and community. This is a challenging time and I thank you for your continued cooperation and support as we work to respond to this constantly changing and evolving situation and to ensure we keep everyone safe.
With kindest regards,
Dr. Thomas Ralston
