Last Sunday, the Steelers played in their home opener, hoping to start a streak after a win against the Super Bowl runner-ups, the Cincinnati Bengals. The momentum from the last win didn’t seem to carry over, suffering a disappointing loss in a defensive battle to the New England Patriots 17-14.
Although tight end Pat Freiermuth had a great showing, scoring the Steelers’ only touchdown, many agree the Steelers inconsistent offense was to blame for this subpar showing. “It was painful to watch” exclaimed teacher Mr. White. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky was a big part of the poor performance, going 21-33, and only gaining 168 yards. He was able to throw one touchdown, but it was matched with an interception caught by Jalen Mills. Some fans still think Mitch deserves a chance “I think we need another game or two to tell if they want to keep him or put Pickett in” says freshman Stefan Lash.
After the disappointing loss against the Patriots, Steelers fans hope to watch their team redeem themselves in a big rivalry game against the run-heavy Cleveland Browns on Thursday night in Cleveland. Though Star player Myles Garrett did not participate in practice this week, the Browns will have strong running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Some Steelers fans are not so confident walking into FirstEnergy Stadium with Junior Jon White stating “There is no way we win with Truibisky starting.” Though we can’t know the outcome of the game, we can expect a hard-fought game between both rivals.
