Today the 2-6 Pittsburgh Steelers traded the 3-year player Chase Claypool to the 3-5 Chicago Bears. In return, the Steelers will receive a 2nd round draft pick in the 2023 NFL draft. “Mapletron” has been a mediocre player for the Steelers this season, only recording 32 catches and 311 yards for 1 touchdown as of week 8 of the 2022 NFL season.
In his draft in 2020, he was a second-round pick for the Steelers, and the Steelers are trading him for a 2nd round pick from the Bears. This was a very good trade for the Steelers, who recently picked up Wide Receiver George Pickens from Georgia University in the 2022 draft, whom many predict will be the next Antonio Brown type receiver for the Steelers. Along with Pickens the Steelers field Deontae Johnson, a 3rd round pick in 2019.
The current Steelers O-line is mediocre at best, often leaving rookie QB Kenny Pickett open to be sacked. The Steelers now have one 1st round pick and two 2nd round picks. The Steelers are in line to have a top-10, maybe even a top-5 overall draft pick in the 2023 draft, which sports several offensive linemen such as Peter SkoronskIi from Northwestern and Paris Johnson Jr. from Ohio State. Overall I believe this is a strong opportunity for the Steelers to pick up some good linemen in the first few rounds of the draft. I think this is a good call by Omar Khan.
Sadly, this leaves the Steelers dried up for the rest of the season, putting them in a position to loose way more than they win. As a Steelers fan, I think that this season is essentially over, but I have hopes for the future. With a solid O-line, the Steelers can get something done. Kenny Pickett is proving himself as a decent QB1 and our receivers are also solid. Another field we have been short in is running the ball. Najee Harris, a 1st round pick in the 2021 draft from Alabama, hasn’t been able to get anything done, having the 29th-worst total yards and a terrible 3.3 yards per carry this season. But with an O-line to open up wholes for him, I think he could be decent.
