Junior Rowan Carmichael and Senior Hunter Blackson won TIPS, facing off against seniors Sam Neil and Matt Farrah as a highlight during a Winter Sports Pep Rally assembled by the TIPS committee – led by Mr. Johncour and Mrs. White, who helped organize the 2 week long fundraiser. TIPS raised over $2,000 for assistant coach Lance Hilyard after his auto garage, Veterans Autoworks, suffered deep fire damage in January.
The rally at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 16th started by Mrs. Maisner and Dr. George recognizing Winter Sports and the Musical cast currently rehearsing for Into the Woods in March. From Girls Bowling to Basketball and Hockey, 23-24 winter sports once again continued with higher playoff seeding, and sometimes winning a section, as a standard expectation from students and community members.
Sophomore Eli Gardiner (pictured above middle, between TIPS organizers Mrs. White and Mr Johncour, won the Boys knockout before learning support staff and AHS alumni Ethan Syam (wearing #90 TJ Watt Steelers jersey) won the faculty knockout game. Senior Maryn Ronk won the girls knockout game.
The student faculty basketball game ended the rally, seemingly tied after about 5 or 6 minutes of very physical play between the students (a mix of junior and senior athletes, mostly football and soccer players) against Mr. Affanah, Mr. Adler, Coach Dizon (girls basketball coach – learning support staff) Mr Guess and Mr. Cario.
