February 15th was a great day for the Avonworth Lady Lopes bowling team as they competed in the WPIBL bowling championships. The team consists of Captain Leah Kuban and students Ryan Neal, Maryn Ronk, Allie Nau, Emma Belotti, Alivia Lantzy, and Savannah Jimenez. They earned their spot and will be advancing to the regional competition on March 9th. Lantzy continues her playoff run on Thursday, February 25th, where she will be competing in the singles bowling championship.
The Avonworth boys team was not as successful. With only four students on the team, Brady Dennis (freshman), Sam Hustwit (sophomore), Marshall McCall (junior), and Alek Wert (senior), it was very difficult to compete against other teams that had more members.
“For the boys, it was basically an impossible season for us. We only had four out of the five players needed for a full team, making it so every other team we played against basically had a leg up on us because they were able to score an extra person’s worth of points. Moral of the story: join the bowling team.” -Marshall McCall
