Avonworth seniors continue to wrap up their senior projects as the year slowly winds down. In 2024, senior projects were held in multiple locations, including the new small classrooms inside the re-designed library. Senior Project Advisors Dr. George and Mrs. Reilsono, stepping in for Mrs. Chester who was on sabbatical in 23-24, provided breakfast and snacks and tried to create a welcoming environment.
In June of 2002, graduation projects became a mandatory requirement for students to graduate in public schools in Pennsylvania. Following that month, numerous students have developed and presented unique works, improving their community through volunteer labor, taking place, for the most part, within their school district.
The conditions haven’t changed since the law was initially enacted. Up to three team members are required to better the community and present their work to school officials. Pennsylvania requires students to complete a graduation project in which students demonstrate mastery of the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout their studies.
Upperclassmen at Avonworth were asked what the most challenging aspect of the project was.
“The most difficult thing for my project was putting together the slides, and meeting the requirements.” Jacob Hanny
