From Frau’s e-mail to the entire AHS staff –
Lucy Myers also was a stunner as our Best Actress nominee–an incredible feat for a sophomore to even be nominated!!This ties our record wins from 2012, when our production of Sweeney Todd garnered the same number and sent two AHS students (Nathan Pool & Brooke Tate) as Best Actor & Actress to the national competition on Broadway. It was also the greatest number of wins across the 33 schools involved this year. The kids were spectacular–professional in their behavior, cheerfully supporting other schools, and incredibly focused in performance. They labored tirelessly all day at The Benedum, and their performance was no less than stunning! There is nothing more inspiring than seeing our students take the stage in that immense hall when the lights come up as they click into character and own the moment!
Behind the scenes, the cast and crew had to adjust to multiple construction obstacles throughout rehearsals, especially in the week leading up to the performance. The district began dissembling the old seats and starting on renovations, causing cast and crew to find alternate locations to practice. Regardless of obstacles, including Ms. Frauenholz teaching out of the auditorium until May before relocating to a renovated classroom, AHS Theatre closes out the 50 + year history of this auditorium with a top-tier award winning musical.
