Apple Music recently finished its 100 Best Albums list rollout and only features one metal album. While bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath couldn’t squeeze themselves onto the Top 100, the 16-time Platinum-achieving band Metallica did. Metallica secured the 69th spot in Apple Music’s Top 100 with their album Master of Puppets. Before Master of Puppets, Metallica released their Ride the Lightning album, which moved them to be caught between underground freedom and mainstream recognition. The main point of their album was simple, really loud guitars, played fast, and no regard for their hair as the music they played then dominated the airwaves. Music this intense had never reached such a large audience before, and Metallica has never been smaller since. In the next five years, they would become one of the world’s biggest bands, bringing anger and amusement into stadiums everywhere.
