For a second year, the ESL club worked with Foods teachers to provide a unique and welcoming Thanksgiving experience featuring dishes as traditional as turkey to a special West African cuisine.
Club sponsor Mrs. Arnold sent the following e-mail earlier in November to explain the event:
The English as a second language (ESL) Club was created as a response to the increase of immigrant students who began and continue to attend Avonworth from a variety of countries. The ESL Club works to create a welcoming environment for these students who are still learning English and adapting to a new environment. This year, the ESL club will be hosting our 2nd Multicultural Thanksgiving Dinner. On Tuesday, November 26 from 5-7 p.m. in the foods room, the ESL Club will be meeting to spend an evening of gratitude and cultural exchange with international dishes served alongside the traditional American meal. The ESL Club would like to invite you and your family to join us for the evening.
Club president senior Victoria Garcia stopped by Journalism 1 to preview the event and our reporters visited the kitchen to see preparations.
Photos below are of preparations in Mrs. Sebolt and Dr. George’s classroom for the meal later that night…
