This year has come with many interesting, confusing, funny, and downright dumb trends. Most trends usually only stay relevant for a few weeks unless it is good enough to stay for longer. After that, it just gets annoying, the demure trend would be a great example of this. The demure trend was where people would say “very demure, very mindful” to decide something that happens or how they act. This short quote came from the trans-gender TikTok creator Jools Lebron. Like most trends or viral videos, many people believed that she did not deserve the fame she was given, but no matter what people think trends can majorly change a person’s well-knownness, followers, and life in all.
A trend that is very popular, funny, and not irritating would be the “hear me out” cakes. This trend is where people buy or make a cake that they will add sticks to it with pictures of characters, cartoons, or people on it, and the picture of the character is essentially the person’s “hear me out.” A “hear me out” is someone or something that is not conventionally attractive or made to be found attractive at all. These examples are just anything that others might find funny or impossible to be attractive. On the more questionable side of “hear me out’s” people have said the letter 8 or other people’s dads. On the more normal side, people will name cartoons like Guy from Croods, or characters like Tom Riddle from Harry Potter. There is a very large range for this trend, which makes it very entertaining and allows room for creativity.
For this article, I walked around the school asking people their opinions on “hear me out” cakes and what their biggest “hear me out” was. Someone’s biggest “hear me out” is just like a regular “hear me out” but to the greatest extent, this is the most questionable and possibly controversial “hear me out” that a person has. There was a wide variety of responses for each person’s ”hear me out”, but most were positive towards the idea of “hear me out” cakes. Some people had a list already, while others were put on the spot. For example, Olvia Hanlon gave me a list of Q from “Impractical Jokers”, Li Shang from “Mulan”, Scar from “Lion King”, Lin Manuel Miranda, Alexander Hamilton, Nolan Petote from PYCO School of Music, Tim from “Tim and Moby”, Barack Obama, Young JFK, and Aladdin from “Aladdin”. Surprisingly none of these are Olivia’s biggest “hear me out,” but all the people and characters she listed give a great range of what a person could say would be their “hear me out.” On top of Olvia’s response, everyone else I interviewed knew what a “hear me out” and “hear me out” cake was, showing how famous and popular trends like these can get to be.
