Two trends that were prevalent throughout the 2024 year were that of water bottles and musicians. Water bottles like Stanley Cups, Hydroflasks, and Owalas were all extremely common, as the craze for Stanley cups began to decline in response to the rise of Owalas.
One student was quoted saying,” I like my Hydroflask because they’re what I usually use. I’ve had it for forever and I like the color. I don’t need another water bottle when this one is just fine.”
Another shared that they “were hoping to get an Owala for Christmas” because of the bright colors and fun design.
A third student shared that they would prefer their Stanley due to the limited edition cup they could obtain. “My mom was able to get it for me, it’s my favorite color and I love the brand Love Shack Fancy,” she said.
All three cup brands are known for different qualities, but share many common traits; they are colorful, they are reliable, and are accessible- enough that people who want them can purchase them, anyway.
Another large trend this year were popular musicians and their hits. In example, Taylor Swift released the album “Tortured Poets Department”, Sabrina Carpenter released “Short and Sweet”, Charli XCX released “Brat”, and Kendrick Lamar released “GNX” and “meet the grahams”.
Other artists have released singles that immediately skyrocketed in popularity, including “Too Sweet” by Hozier, “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” by Tommy Richman, and “Die With A Smile” by Bruno Mars. The outburst in music created many new fans for artists, with the top 10 U.S. artists of 2024 being Taylor Swift, Drake, Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Kanye West, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, and Metro Boomin.
Many students shared that their favorite artist changed throughout the year, while others’ favorite stayed the same.
“I think my music taste changed, and I think I got sick of listening to the same person every day, so I had to switch it up,” one student said.
“My favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar, and I feel like I don’t even need to say why,” shared another.
“I like Taylor Swift. I like how poetic her songs can be.”
If anything, 2024 water bottles and favorite musicians have had a year of skyrocketing trends and ever-changing perspectives; a perfect representation of life.
