High School wrestling team qualified for WPIAL playoffs and advanced to the second round for the first time in school history this week. Also, the school displayed a new feature for the auditorium, finishing construction late January according to schedule. Student council has a motivational speaker, Kate Garnes, scheduled for Thursday, February 6th, in the auditorium.
Senior Ella Bounos has begun a project to encourage adding color back into the school’s hallways, starting with the back hallway between Mr. White’s classroom and the art room. The school’s construction project resulted in paper white walls throughout the school, as well as covering up many former students hallway murals. Inspired by a different painting of hers, Ella “[hopes] to accomplish a nicer looking wall so that kids have something nice to look at.” She also plans to have a plaque installed explaining the motivation behind the piece.
New lopes lounge in the cafeteria ! Try to win a free drink by writing a caption for the avonews photo on the 11 page. This week, Lopes Lounge is open Thursday and Friday !
A new light-up library sign depicting the library was completed earlier this school year. Now, it is a regular lounge area for students with TVs on the walls, various tables and soft seating, and aisles of bookshelves. Earlier this year, there was controversy over the small size of the library and glass walls, but it’s appreciated by students as an open mod and study hall location.
