Super Bowl 59 was a highly criticized sporting event before it even happened. From the day the teams were announced, some students in the halls and on their phones have been in an uproar over a rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Most fans on social media held on to the “World vs Refs” narrative and took to the Eagles’ side, other fans rooted for players such as Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley, who broke the all-time single-season rushing yard record(inc. playoffs), and Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts gained a lot of popularity leading up to the Super Bowl.
However, what do students in Avonworth think?
Luke Janicki, 11: “I thought it was good, happy about the outcome. I thought it would be closer but overall, Eagles win. The halftime show was alright; it was not amazing, and it was not bad”.

Hunter Hogan, 9: “I’m happy the Eagles won, defeating the Chiefs was an accomplishment for the rest of the NFL. The Halftime show was really good, doesn’t beat last year’s”.
Owen Dugan, 11: “I didn’t watch much of the game, but the Halftime show was alright. I didn’t love it”.
Jayden Jones, 9: “It was pretty bad, it wasn’t a fun-to-watch game but I’m glad the Eagles won so the Chiefs didn’t threepeat. The halftime show was alright 7/10”.
Lucas Thompson, 11: “It was good. I was surprised by the outcome I was expecting the Chiefs to do a lot better than they did but I am very happy about how the game ended”.
Author’s opinion: I feel that the game was relatively boring to watch as it was a blowout by the Eagles, leading the Chiefs 40-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. I felt that the real superstar of the game was the Eagle’s defense, with explosive plays by Corner Cooper Dejean who had a 38-yard pick-six and a 4th quarter strip sack by D-lineman Milton Williams, resulting in a turnover. I thought the halftime show by Kendrick Lamar was kind of boring, however, I don’t think it was bad at all. The halftime show had insane amounts of symbolism and meaning, it just wasn’t necessarily entertaining. I would rate the game itself as a 6/10 because there were explosive plays, but the outcome of the game was never in question. The halftime show was a solid 7/10 and I would give the whole Super Bowl a 7/10 rating.
