Any chance for revenge disappeared early in a rematch of last year’s WPIAL section championship. The Antelopes defeated Central Valley, 34-6, and continued their dominant 6-0 record and kept in cruise control over the Western Hills Conference.
SOPHOMORE SENSATION
Sophomore Jaden Jones has been on a tear this season, and he continued to do so Friday night. Within his impressive 3 catches for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns, his 49-yard reception got the Lopes rolling on offense. Quarterback Carson Bellinger continued his quality season as well, throwing for 153 yards total and 3 touchdowns, marking his 12th passing touchdown this season in his impressive senior campaign.
VICIOUS VELISARIS
Junior star running back Dimitri Velisaris has been one of the top WPIAL rushers this season, and he continued his success, running for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. Velisaris swung momentum back for his team early after Central Valley scored on their first drive, finishing the Lopes opening drive with his 13th rushing touchdown of the year. ”It feels amazing, especially knowing that my team and I can do big things and overcome challenges.” said Velisaris, “I’m looking forward to seeing what other things we can accomplish this season.”
BALANCED ATTACK
A Bryce Metz extra point block prevented the Warriors from going up 7-0 and senior Jackson Krul intercepted Central Valley’s Braddock Ambrose early in the 3rd quarter. The Lopes continued their dominant defense in the second half, pitching a shutout with contributions from all around, including Sophomore Romello Harris’s sack in the red zone.
NEAL CONTINUES CONTRIBUTIONS
Two-way phenom Luca Neal carried 5 times for an efficient 47 yards off of the offense’s first use of one of the features from last year’s running attack, Wildcat formation. He also produced as a receiver, as a deep ball from Bellinger at the end of the third quarter and a quick slant route in the end zone marked his 6th receiving touchdown of the year.
Quaker Valley comes to Lenzner this Friday night as the Lopes, ranked #1 in the state for 3A football, look to keep on winning through October.
