Turnovers don’t tell the full story
Even after a 5-turnover performance, we are still talking about the defense. Another 100 + yard against game. But, they caused four fumbles. They also included an endzone pick at the end of the second quarter from cornerback Brandin Echols. Even with 5 “splash plays”, the defense was not bad overall, yet still not what it should have been, especially for the price tag. Sacks by Cam Heyward, Nick Herbig, rookie Derrick Harmon, and 2 from TJ Watt were highlights. But giving up two easy touchdowns in this one after all these turnovers and sacks is almost unacceptable.
Offensive Struggles
As a whole, the highest paid in the NFL defense gave the Arthur Smith and Aaron Rodgers offense chances to get up big in this game, but they did not convert. They had a couple of drives where they did nothing with their turnovers and just had to punt. Arguably Rodgers had bit of a lackluster game with only 139 passing yards and was outplayed by Derek Mayo. But Rodgers also brings his legacy with him this season, so his 2 touchdowns moved him ahead of Brett Favre to put himself 4th all time in passing touchdowns.
But he still didn’t have a perfect game, passing, throwing a pick to former Steelers linebacker Robert Spillane.
Slight Snooze Fest
With a game that included 5 turnovers, it wasn’t as exciting as you would think it would be. Watching the game from home, it was boring because there weren’t that many fireworks in the game besides the turnovers. But even with the turnovers, it was still a boring game. No huge downfield throws or breakaway runs to cheer about from either team and it wasn’t like there were sensational individual efforts within either offense to get hyped about.
