2025 was definitely a good year for franchises at movie theatres, featuring sequels and adaptations. Overall, there were countless good watches, stretching over genres such as horror, romance, comedy, and many more. Here are the top 6 best movies in the year 2025.
In 6th place, produced by Warner Brothers we have Sinners. It was released on April 18th, 2025, and placed in the genre of drama/thriller.
In 5th place, we have Wicked: For Good. This musical is produced by Marc Platt alongside David Stone. It was released on November 22nd, 2024.
In 4th place, we have Jurassic World: Rebirth. Released in July, this movie kept the Jurassic series alive, reeling everyone back to the dinosaur saga.
In 3rd place, we have Superman, a science-fiction/action film. It was released on July 11th, 2025, and was produced by James Gunn.
In 2nd place, we have Lilo and Stitch (live-action remake). This was released in September and was based on the Disney movie that was originally released in 2002. 23 years later and its still a massive success.
In 1st place, we have the Minecraft Movie, bringing in 958 million dollars worldwide in 2025. It was released on April 4th, 2025, with the addition of a sequel releasing on July 23, 2027.
While these might be the blockbuster rankings, we asked Avonworth High School students their opinions on the best movies of 2025, and here are a couple of responses.
Senior Grace Ermlich said she enjoyed Superman and F1: the movie (which is not featured on the top 6 but was another popular movie)
Junior Julia Nardozzi said Wicked: For Good. “I loved the first one and the second one was even better. Best series I have seen in a long time.”
Sophomore Ali Linhart said that she loved the Minecraft Movie. “I thought it was so funny and a great watch.”
