From old-school legends to new-generation icons, Pittsburgh was spoiled with great live music this year. Here’s our wrap-up:
Lorde
On October 3rd, the Petersen Event Center had the pleasure of hosting Lorde on her “Ultrasound World Tour.” This was a sold-out concert and her first Pittsburgh show; it received great reviews, and fans thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As put by junior Lyra Klinedinst: “It was crazy amazing, actually. She is a really strong performer live, and the production was great.” The concert was said to literally be floor-shaking at times, with energy felt across Oakland.

Sombr
Currently on his first major tour, newly popular Sombr performed at the Petersen Event Center in Pittsburgh as part of his “Late Nights & The Young Romance Tour.” Around 8,000 people attended this concert and gave it high praise. One Avonworth freshman thought “the energy everyone brought, including Sombr, just made it feel so special and unforgettable, and hearing his music live was also incredible.” His set mimicked a late-night TV show, and Sombr brought fans up on the stage for funny interviews, adding to both the gimmick and the spirit of the show.

Sabrina Carpenter
On her “Short n’ Sweet Tour,” Sabrina Carpenter made a two-night stop at PPG Paints Arena. Here she performed hits from her album of the same name, as well as her newer release, “Man’s Best Friend,” to full venues.
Mumford & Sons
The London-based folk rock band made an appearance in the ‘burgh at PPG Paints Arena on October 19th, touring their new album “Rushmere.” A freshman who attended remarked that “it was cool to see that a band from Europe recognized our Pittsburgh spirit.” The show was electrifying and exciting, with numerous stage effects adding to the night. They performed both new and old hits, making a memorable night for all fans.

Tate McRae
Tate McRae made her Pittsburgh debut this October on her “Miss Possesive Tour.” Her sold out concert at PPG was a student favorite as well as draw for university students.

Lil Tecca
A 23-year-old New York-based rapper, Lil Tecca, performed at Stage AE on November 1st. Part of his “Dopamine Experience Tour,” the artist put on an energetic show with a lively crowd.
Paul McCartney
A man who needs little introduction, the former Beatle made his fifth solo (and sixth total) appearance in Pittsburgh on November 11th. His “Got Back Tour” at PPG was “a rollercoaster” for many, according to sophomore Emi Bechtold, who noted, “seeing him reflect on his past with the Beatles brought out some emotions in me that I didn’t know I had.” His special tribute to bandmember George Harrison was distinctly unforgettable, and his nearly three-hour performance was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. McCartney’s colossal legacy made for a very memorable show.
