In what would many consider a shocking turn of events, not even 24 hours after the loss to the Texans. Mike Tomlin steps down from his head coaching job after 19 seasons, 1 Super Bowl win, 8 AFC North titles, and no losing seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Steelers fans have mixed feelings about not just the decision but Mike Tomlin overall. Some people thought he was great, and some thought he wasn’t that good. But the overall reception has been positive. Many players have expressed their gratitude towards Tomlin. One main guy was Joey Porter Jr, as it was reported that he was hyperventilating, as he’s been around the organization longer than a lot of current guys as his dad played for Tomlin during his superbowl year and coached during the mid to late 2010’s.
Another guy was T.J. Watt as he was holding back tears during Tomlin’s speech for the team.
My family has had season tickets for years, so I’ve been, as coach Tomlin would say during press conferences, “in stadium” throughout high school. Now that he’s resigned and his story as coach here is finished, here are my 3 favorite games I saw at Acrisure/Heinz Field from the many of his 19 seasons with the Steelers.
Favorite 3 Games Under Tomlin
1. Ravens vs Steelers 2025
It was just so much fun to be at and the ending couldn’t have gone any better. Knowing now that the loser of this game was going to eventually be fired. But seeing as this was his last time winning in Pittsburgh, he couldn’t have gone out in a more Mike Tomlin way.
2. Bengals vs Steelers 2023
Seeing as it was 2 days before Christmas and the quarterback was Mason Rudolph it was such a fun game to be at. George Pickens playing and having the game he did was amazing. It made that years Christmas so much better.
3. Steelers vs Browns 2022
This game was very emotional as this was Ben Roethlisberger’s last home game. Seeing how this team played for him it was so much fun to watch. I loved watching the team get a turnover on the Browns’ last drive to let Ben kneel out on his last game at Heinz Field.
Last words
I would like to say thank you to Mike Tomlin. He was great during his years. He was a great coach and coached well with the quarterbacks he was given. Overall he was very good, but he understood it was time for a change, and I hope the future of this team is in great hands. Thank you, Coach T.
