Due to start in lunch times throughout high school, we wondered what students ate to keep themselves content before or after lunchtime. For many teens, lunch doesn’t always fall at a convenient time. Some students eat surprisingly early, while others have to wait until mid-afternoon. Because of this, snacks have become an essential part of getting through the day.
9th and 10th-graders, who currently have lunch from 10:53 to 11:28 in the morning, shared their opinions about the snacks they pack for themselves to ensure they are not hungry throughout the school day. Most students said that eating that early leaves them hungry again by the end of the day, especially during long classes or after-school activities. Snacks help fill that gap.
Students’ most common responses are as follows:
- Flaming Hot Doritos
- Takis
- Goldfish
- Fruit Snacks
Not being in any specific order, the most common snacks are listed above. The one snack that seemed most liked by the majority of the people we asked was Flaming Hot Doritos.
Several students mentioned that they like the taste and the spice, and that the chips are easy to throw in a backpack. Others said that snacks like Takis give them energy and help them stay alert during afternoon classes.
Goldfish and fruit snacks, on the other hand, were more popular among students who prefer something less spicy or more convenient to eat quickly. These snacks are also considered “shareable,” and some students admitted they keep extra packs because friends tend to ask for them. This shows how snacks have also become a small social experience.
Overall, snacks play a bigger role in the school day than many people realize. They keep students focused, prevent midday fatigue, and sometimes even boost morale. With busy schedules and unusual lunch hours, the simple act of packing a favorite snack has become a routine part of surviving the school day.
