Pittsburgh hockey fans had a chance to celebrate USA gold with the 2026 Winter Olympics, the first time in generations.

Language Arts teacher and longtime hockey player Mr. Wells echoed what many hockey fans felt around this suburban Pittsburgh high school:
“It was much easier to cheer for team USA,” after Crosby’s injury earlier in the tournament.

In the 2010 Olympics it was tough seeing Crosby get the winning goal. but once he’d been injured [in this year’s Olympics], the connection to team Canada was severed.
Here are a few student reflections:
Senior Cole Kuretich: “If Sidney Crosby was on the ice he would have messed us (Team USA) up for sure. I thought our goalie {Connor Hellebuyck} was great in the first half.”

Senior Joey Moore: “{the} MVP… has to be {Jack} Hughes for scoring under pressure and being gritty.”
