On March 13th-18th, I visited Disney World in Florida. Quite frankly, it was one of the best trips I have ever been on, and it seemed like a kick-start to a new travel life after 2020. With masks requirements being lifted all over the states, this trip had felt like any other normal traveling experience before all the changes. However, it had been my first time on a plane EVER so I knew nothing different than wearing a mask on a plane.
A specific moment where this new phase of post-pandemic life had become visible to me had been during a light show at Magic Kingdom. People had stood body to body in front of the castle, nearly nobody had a mask on, and the workers had been the ones ushering people to stand closer together to allow more room for others. I must admit I was a little paranoid at that moment, just being in a crowd of over a thousand people from all over the country/world, but it could have also been the sense of claustrophobia it created. Other than that short moment, I had given much thought to the pandemic thankfully. At their airport, however, several times someone would go over the loudspeaker to announce that the COVID vaccine and tests were present within the airport. It was a bit of a reminder of all the changes that had taken place over the past few years that could potentially become a new norm for quite some time.
On a brighter note, the trip itself was beautiful. I had never been to Florida prior, and now I wish I could move there because of how great the experience was. The only drawback were the very long days of constantly walking, but that’s tiny compared to how thankful I was to have had the opportunity to see Disney and experience it with my sister. Most importantly, it had become an even more memorable trip because my sister had been proposed to during the light show at Magic Kingdom.
I am sure my experience there had been so great due to the settling of COVID restrictions. Disney during the midst of the pandemic would have most likely been a strict place — as it should have been — due to the number of people from so many different places going there. I am grateful to have experienced it at a time as now when everything seems to be finally settling down. I am eager to travel more in the future when given the opportunity, and I look forward to this long-awaited post-virus lifestyle.
