On my first day covering the hallway, attendance did not seem to be a priority.
While out there for approximately 20 minutes only 6 people passed by, two of those being teachers. That ends up being 1 almost every 4 minutes. So today instead of focusing on what people are doing out of class in the hallway. The story seems to be more about what students are doing not in school whatsoever.
This morning on my oh-so-long walk from Lenzner I immediately noticed that it felt more empty than normal, especially for a parking lot made up of most juniors who may still be learning. When coming into school it felt as though even more seniors were absent even though the amount of days we have left in high school can be counted on one hand.
This brings up the conversation about how little time we have left. Should that be spent at school? As law mandates? Or spent outside where time with friends can be better spent? It seems as though today everyone decided it would be better to leave campus.
Most likely this is influenced by the UV. Weather that only a few days ago had extreme rain has now opened up into 80-degree days. With the UV being 7 (high) as I write this at 2:48 I can only imagine that at noon it could have been even higher.
Even though I did come to school today priority for most seems as if it was outside of school and even though that did take away what my story was supposed to be on, I gotta say that I can’t blame them.
