New coaches bring new opportunities to the Lady Lopes, who find themselves fielding a majority of 9th and 10th grade athletes after a stretch of 11th and 12th grade starting talent. Bill Mislan is the new head coach with Kelly Kerr and Jim Lucot as his assistants. Each of them has a great depth of experience playing and coaching softball prior to their arrival at Avonworth. The team also has new captains: Reese Long (Senior), Gaby Interthal (Senior), and Lexie Savatt (Junior).
These leaders will be vital to a great season. Lexie Savatt says, “I’m super excited for this season. Our team is really close and hardworking, and we support and motivate each other at every practice, preparing for the upcoming games.”
The team’s first official game is scheduled for March 16th against West Allegheny. Next, the team heads off to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they will play a few scrimmages to prepare for the rest of the season.
End of Season Update:
Successful Pink-out game and fundraiser was part of an up-and-down season, filled with close wins and losses as well as double-digit victories and defeats.
Going into the last week of the regular season, the Lady Lopes sit at 7-12 overall, enough to qualify for playoffs.
