Boys Baseball started their run towards a WPIAL Championship with a 6-0 win over Waynesburg Central at W & J Field in Washington County on Tuesday, May 12th.
Leading the way in the win was the pitching. Cooper Scharding had 8 K’s, 1 hit allowed, and Carson Franc finished out the shutout with 3 K’s and 1 hit in two innings.
It took the Lopes just the first inning to post 4 runs and take control of this matchup. A single from Scharding, a bunt single from Nick Blackson, and a triple from Case Latore drove in the first two runs. Jack Dolan doubled in Latore for the third run, and Sam Hustwit hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Dolan and score the 4th run of the inning.
Later contributions came from Scharding and Blackson to add the final two runs in the 6-0 victory.
The team now waits until next Tuesday evening for the 2nd round matchup.
