By Friday, May 22nd, AHS students had all at least slept in once throughout the week, as well as learned that Superintendent Jeff Hadley would be resigning [to accept the role of Superintendent at Hampton School District].
The class of 2026 had late arrival on Monday and Tuesday to accommodate Biology and Literature Keystone tests for 9th and 10th grade.
Swapping places, only the seniors were in the building to present their 10-15 minute Senior Showcase presentations to 5 panel audiences mixed with primary, elementary, middle, high school teachers and staff. This first year of a K-12 event, hosted throughout the high school, replaced the prior Senior Project format where specific advisors would listen to presentations, in the library or in classrooms.
Every student throughout the class of 2026 attended their timeslot, which ranged from 9 until noon, and essentially completed their Senior year requirements (outside of finals) by presenting about an educational, work-related, social-related, or community-related topic reflecting their skills, dispositions, growth, and gratitude.
“I went home pretty tired,” said senior Matthew Harper. Similarly, senior Austin Kosanovich took the afternoon to rest and relax after presenting. Senior Nfakaba Drame reflected overall on the experience by saying, “he had a good week.” “It was good….kind of hectic, but a good hectic. I kept telling myself I had all week to prepare for finals, but I still got a lot done with Senior Showcase, which was a lot of fun…different from what we’ve done all year, but still fun,” said Senior Natalie Frank.
Thursday marked the end of Keystone and Makeup Exams, and Friday finished out the last full week of classes for the seniors, including an email that sponsors Dr. George and Mrs. Reilsono sent about passing the Showcase requirement.
