Man of La Mancha has it all – laughs, action, singing, music, romance, dancing horses, an idealistic man who is a poet and tax collector. What is not to be excited about?
Avonworth High School’s spring musical Man of la Mancha opens Friday, April 4th at 7:30 PM. The show is a play within a play, taking place during the Spanish Inquisition. A man, Don Miguel de Cervantes, is imprisoned for foreclosing on a church. While in prison, he is confronted by the other inmates who demand he provide their “court” with a defense or face losing all of his possessions. Don Miguel decides the best way to do so is by doing what he does best: putting on a show. As he invites other prisoners to star in the play with him, he persuades the prosecutors to “see life as it really is.”
The cast feels that they are ready to give their all in the upcoming production. Senior Josh Kujawinski who is playing the Governor and Inn Keeper, both characters involved in the titular character’s adventures, is excited about the show. He said, “I really do like the story within a story aspect of it, it’s really fun, I really like all the characters. Everyone seems to be having a good time with it.” Currently the cast and crew are in the middle of “Tech Week,” a rigorous practice session that lasts anywhere from three to nine hours on the days leading up to opening night. But they are ready. Josh believes this is for the best. “By the end we always feel really confident and prepared…at least I feel like we do.”
This is a very good article on the play…I like how you gave some background info as well
This a very nicely written article about the play. It is informational about the musical itself along with talking to cast and crew members and their thoughts about the musical. It makes the reader want to come see the musical for sure… well done!
