The Avonworth baseball team has had many ups and downs this year. After losing 17-0 in a section game against New Brighton, they won their next game 2-1 against South Side Beaver, the best team in the section.
Junior shortstop Eric Lippert said, “Our talent this year looks like we have the potential to be better but we haven’t been performing to our potential.”
The Antelopes currently have a 3-4 section record and a 4-5 record overall. The team has not been too successful since moving to AA. This record is similar for what the team had last year when they switched from A to AA.
Hopefully the baseball team can improve its record in the next few games against Fort Cherry, Quaker Valley, and Seton LaSalle. They still have a small chance of making playoffs this year.
As if their rocky start was not enough, the baseball team has also been struggling with the weather. They have postponed five games so far this year and have had to move many practices indoors.
However, there is hope for the baseball team in the future with the freshmen class. New to the varsity team this year are Brandon Cerminara and Nate Slenska. Lippert said that “Nate Slenska has been a boost to the team.”
