NHL Playoffs start on Wednesday April 16, 2014 and the Stanley Cup has already arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hockey fans in Pittsburgh had a chance to see the cup in person. Phil Pritchard,Stanley Cup handler, was also at the event and the fans were able to meet him also. The Stanley Cup was brought to Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania as a tourist attraction as members of General Electric promoted the abundance of gas resources in Alberta, Canada. To bring attention to this, the Stanley Cup was brought along for photography and sighting for the people of Pittsburgh, PA.
Chloe Raught and Emily Grambo, Juniors at Avonworth High School went to downtown Pittsburgh to see the Stanley Cup. Emily was interested after hearing about the event on a local radio station. Emily then contacted Chloe after hearing about the event. “It was very impressive and cool to see.” said Emily on going to see the Stanley Cup on display. She even got to meet and take a picture with Phil Pritchard, stanley cup holder.
Chloe Raught said “ Meeting Phil was actually more exciting than being able to see and touch the Stanley Cup.” She has already visited the cup in Toronto,Canada at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Many hockey fans and NHL players such as Sidney Crosby are superstitious about touching the cup before the stanley cup Playoffs but, Emily and Chloe both said that they had no superstitions about touching Lord Stanley’s Cup.
The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the playoffs as hopes are high to bring the Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh in the near future.
