Tomorrow morning, The Avonworth Antelopes will be playing at Heinz Field to compete against the Clairton Bears for a WPIAL title. The last time was the ‘Lopes played in this game was in 1959 where the game resulted in a tie. Avonworth has overcome a great amount of Adversity this year, but their biggest challenge might be containing Lamont Wade, the WPXI player of the year for single A. Wade is the #3 CB in the state and a force on offense.
At 6 o’clock on Thursday, the team held a pep rally in the new Avonworth primary center. They were recognized for their hard work and their run at history. Head Coach Duke Johncour explained to the crowd how hard the team worked to be in this position.
Freshman Joey Bevilaqua said it best when he stated that being at Heinz will “help motivate us to prove our worth as an Avonworth football team.” The game should be nothing less than spectacular.
