Friday morning, December 12th began with the sugar rush for many students here at Avonworth. Abby Ifft’s mom baked 600 cupcakes because it was Abby’s birthday and the whole school was treated to a surprise celebration. Regular morning announcements ended with an announcement about cupcakes in the guidance office. The cupcakes were free to take, a variety of chocolate, red velvet, and vanilla, and were taken by the handful. They were gone within a matter of a few class periods. If you were walking in the hallways, you were more than likely to see students with the cupcakes. “Oooo, cupcakes!” said freshman Blayne Zimmerman, echoing the glee of hundreds who enjoyed a cupcake or two or three.
Cupcakes were also available in the cafeteria during lunches. There is still confusion as to why and how so many cupcakes were produced, but there were many thankful students.
Were they tasty as well as free? Payton Wisniewski thought that “…the icing was good and the cake was fluffy. The cupcakes were very pretty, also.” People are now wondering what will happen next on someone’s 18th birthday…#600cookies?
