As Spring officially starts on the calendar, snow falls across the campus, spring sports are rescheduled, and a long winter seems to drag on. Luckily the School Board decided to lessen the impact of a frigid February and March by waiving a snow make up-day. The notes state that the board decided “To waive the second snow make-up day of March 30, 2015. In the event of another snow day school would be in session on March 30 and 31.”
The school has also put out a letter on the school website regarding the makeup snow day, stating”The Avonworth School District School Board of Directors voted at the Monday, March 9, 2015 regular meeting to forgive the inclement weather makeup day for March 30, 2015. Therefore, the spring break will be as follows: March 30 – April 3, 2015. School will be in session on Monday, April 6, 2015.”
This is a huge change from last years as Spring Break was almost nothing, only a three day weekend. However, this year we can look forward to an almost full Spring break starting Friday, March 27th, and going through Friday, April 6th, more than a week off of school. As for the chance of another snow day, despite the hours of snowfall on the first day of spring, the warmer temperatures make the chance seem incredibly low.
Students’ are reacting with satisfaction. Freshmen Conner Pappas, Ben Snively, and Ethan Woodfill said they were excited to find out we are getting a full week of spring break back. Ethan and Ben do not have any big plans but Conner is looking forward to “Staying up, and sleeping in.”
