Vegetarianism Does Not Stop the Death of Animals – Guest Editorial by Ryan Humphrey

What diet involves animal product, vegetables, and no meat? A vegetarian diet! What diet excludes ALL animal product? A vegan diet! These food choices are two completely different things. One supports the dairy industry and one does not. The dairy industry is responsible for 21,000,000 dairy calves’ lives lost every year. These calves are sold for veal or cheap beef; the veal industry would not exist without the dairy industry.

If the death of millions of innocent animals wasn’t bad enough, the dairy industry also performs genetic mutation. Today’s dairy cows produce up to 12 times more milk than they would naturally produce to feed a calf! 97% of newborn dairy calves are are stolen from their mothers within 12 hours of their birth.

  1. wow, i never realized how poorly dairy cows are treated. the call to action was good and straightforward and though i’m not planning on becoming a vegetarian i do plan to look for better alternatives to the horrifically treated animals.
