The 2016 Avonworth High School Auction was defined by new visitors, returning alumni, and additional destinations all working together to support Student Council’s 29th auction at the high school. With showcase appearances by Pittsburgh Dad and the Nakama food truck, the auction remained a vital way to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund while maintaining an unusual atmosphere compared to the average school day.
Two student bands played as well. Alex “Skippy” Domencic’s band “Mayview” performed several songs including Twenty-One Pilots’ “Ride”. Adam Boaks’ band “Trashbag Parachute” also performed some hit songs like Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly”.
A few popular items were the hockey puck signed by Mario Lemieux, prized Frau turtlenecks, many many pizzas, and a trip to Channel 11 Studios. Pie-ing the football team, playing flag football in the gym, and seeing Mr. Aguiar do 90 push-ups were also highlights of the auction. Additionally, the auctioneer role was split throughout the auction between Mrs. Pointek, new student council sponsor Mrs. Studt-Szalkuski, and recent alumni Kristen Weiser.
Overall, the Auction witnessed some new people and things that surely should be back for next year.
