Antonio Brown has been the talk of the Pittsburgh Steelers since he recorded a locker room meeting with teammates and coach Mike Tomlin being heard in the background which gained much tension from the fans and the Head Coach himself. And now there are reports that he was pouting after the Steelers scored their first touchdown against New England because he didn’t get the ball that play.
Some sports critics, mostly national ones, are thinking that the Steelers might trade Brown because of his attitude and somewhat selfishness. Coach Tomlin fueled these rumors, according to writers like Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, by stating “It’s a global thing in regards to professional sports. I think that’s why oftentimes you see great players move around from team-to-team. And I definitely don’t want that to be his story. I am sure he doesn’t want that to be his story.” But a couple weeks ago the Pittsburgh Steelers were considering signing the star reciever to a long term deal, so that might still be in the discussion.
One of the reasons the Steelers should keep Antonio Brown is because he is a fan favorite, with performing on Dancing With the Stars and several different commercials it’s easy to be a fan of him. Almost every Pittsburgh Steelers fan is looking on the shelves for his jersey because he is one of the most entertaining players on the team. Also because Steelers Nation loves his enthusiasm for the game especailly his endzone celebrations, even though some are controversial they get the fans involved.
Another reason the Steelers need to keep Brown is because of the connection between him and Ben Roethlisberger. Brown is Roethlisberger’s go to guy in clutch situations because Ben can trust Brown to catch the ball if it gets near him. They’ve been together since 2010 and have made a serious bond since then and every year it seems to grow stronger and stronger. Especially now that Ben is starting to consider retirement in the following years I’m sure he would like to have Antonio Brown around to finish his career. But despite that he made some pooor choices he is serious about his craft and his teammates tell the press the same thing all the time.
Lastly, they should retain Antonio Brown because the Steelers and even the NFL have never seen a receiver of his caliber as he set an all time record with 470 receptions in a 4 year span. Even though the Steelers in the past have let popular wide receivers go, Antonio Brown is one of the keys to the Steelers future success as he even can blossom younger receivers that get drafted by the team. Despite the mistakes and accusations the star receiver has faced in the past couple weeks I think you have to keep him and believe he can bounce back and finish his already outstanding career in Pittsburgh.
Art Rooney II just released his end of the season comments on what will happen next season. Some of these comments included what will be the future of Antonio Brown, as Rooney said “Our intention is to try to get a contract extension done with Antonio,” Rooney told select reporters Tuesday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “So we’ll get to work on that.” So it seems the President of the team wants to keep Brown in Pittsburgh for awhile despite the rumors from the past week about Browns availability.
