As the seasons change, winter sports are beginning at Avonworth. The combined Avonworth and Northgate swim team have been busy practicing since September and are preparing for their upcoming meets.
Junior Luke Wagner has been on the swim team since his freshman year. As the team is getting into meet season, Luke said, “We’ve had four meets. Two of them were scrimmages so we are 2-0 in section and 4-0 overall.” Luke says his favorite part of the swim team is how inclusive it is. He says, “It’s easy for anyone to fit right in and have fun with the team.”
Sophomore Cooper Groll is optimistic for this season; he said he is “ready for the challenges and looking forward to upcoming weeks” Looking forward to the upcoming Shadyside meet, Groll commented: “They can recruit, so they have pretty good swimmers and the meet provides good competition.”
The “Flamealopes”, a team nickname popular with most on the team, will get ready for a meet on Thursday the 20th followed by 4-hour practices over the holiday break and swimming 100 “100’s” on Dec 28th.
