This year the baseball team will be holding a fundraiser. It’s not your normal kind of fundraiser. It’s a Cornhole tournament. The tournament will raise money for the baseball team’s trip to Florida. The varsity team or group of 18 are being selected through tryouts leading up to the trip. Most games for the baseball team this year that were scheduled to be played in March were cancelled or moved to a later date. So, the team took this opportunity to help themselves get prepared for the season. When asked, “with a championship on your mind for the baseball team what will this trip do for the team?” Senior Patrick Gannon answered, “Last year it took us awhile to get into gear. This trip is going to get us going earlier than last year and we will bring home Section, WPIAL and PIAA championships for the school and community.”
The trip is March 20th and occurs during the school’s spring break. You hear the term “Spring Training” all of the time in baseball. This is where teams travel, most of the time to states like Florida, California or where there are warmer climates to have team training to get ready for the season. This is also very convenient for teams that live in places that have colder temperature get ready for the heat and get a nice perk of a vacation to one of these nice places. Senior baseball player Patrick Gannon said “I’m looking forward to the warm weather and great baseball facilities”.
The cornhole tournament is being held this Friday, February 22nd. As of right now the baseball team has had a excellent turnout of people they currently have 23 teams of 2 players on each team. Students from 7th to 12th grade, a few teachers and also a few parents are signed up. If you want to sign up for the cornhole tournament today, please do so as today is the last day for signups. If you don’t sign up then you can also make time go watch the tournament. Junior Jax Miller said “I’m excited to play my Dad (Brian Miller) and also my brother (Neo Miller).” originally it was supposed to be Jax and his Dad but at the last minute his Dad switched teams to be with Neo. So, the Father Son rivalry is definitely something to look for while viewing the event. The cornhole tournament is a good way to be involved in the school while also supporting the baseball team and having fun with family and friends.
