This year was a great year for Avonworth hockey, JV won the championship as well as the middle school team. At the beginning of the year, we had a few new kids and it took a while to get used to them. Our first game was not good… We didn’t get a shot on net until halfway through the second period, so at that time none of us had the championship on our minds. The first half of the season wasn’t great either we were losing games and team spirit was fading because we started to get sick of each other.
But at the beginning of 2021, we started to band together and play as a team. Once we did that things started to click and we got our game on. Leading up to the championship we played 3 games to win, In the first one we were up by one point pretty much the whole time. Halfway through the third, we scored 3 to make the game a guaranteed win, The second playoff game was a very fun one, the game was close the whole time and the team was starting to divide. In the third period, our coach told us to get it together and we did. We got the win and went home happy.
One week after that we played our final game. The tension was high and the turnout was the highest I’ve seen all year. We had played Montour before so we knew we could win but they weren’t a team we could just shrug off. The game was tied or up to one point in either direction until the third period. That is when we started to play as a team and play hard to come out of the rink with the championship win. The end of the game was the best part after we all hopped the bench and went on the ice to celebrate.
Overall this was an amazing hockey season.
