Captained by Junior Jackson Shields, Avonworth E-Sports beat the two-time state champs North Catholic 3-1 in a best of 5 series. Avonworth remains undefeated and the Trojans had their first loss of the season.
“This is a HUGE deal,” wrote Mrs. Shumaker, faculty general manager of the esports team, “Their team has a player who is top 500 in the game; he could go pro if he wanted.”
School rivals North Catholic have a top performing esports program
If you’re unfamiliar with esports, going professional with Rocket League could earn you a share of 6,000,000.
Team member Jackson Shields added perspective on the win as well as the upcoming season and how to join:
North Catholic’s best player is MK2 Messi, who ranked Super Sonic Legend in recent seasons. Being Super Sonic Legend means being rated in at least the top .02% of all players, currently consisting of eight hundred people. With Messi as their captain, North Catholic has dominated recent leagues and tournaments; their defeat bodes well for the rest of the Avonworth season.
Avonworth’s starters are Baylor Kirsch, ranked Grand Champion One, Zephyn McCarson, ranked Champion Two, and Jackson Shields, ranked Grand Champion Two.
If you are interested in joining the team, contact Mrs. Shumaker, we are always looking for substitutes and can make alternate teams.
