Girls soccer returns to Highmark stadium for the second year in a row to compete for the WPIAL championship. After 3 section losses in the regular season, two against rival North Catholic, the girls started playoffs with a powerful win.
“Saturday in our quarter final matchup we played Keystone Oaks, and the girls were very dominant in that game. It was a pretty lopsided game (winning 10-0).” said AD Ms. Patton during an fall sports interview session with Journalism students. “Offensively we really dominated.”
{On Tuesday evening} we played North Catholic, who was our rival, and who we lost to twice in the regular season, and I was at that game working,” continued Patton, “and I think that was probably one of the best games of this season that I’ve seen the girls play. They pulled out a really tough win against North Catholic team , 2-1.”
The 2022 team featured 3 all section WPIAL players:
Senior Tea Olsen, an exchange student from Norway who also contributes to Avonews Online through the Journalism class, answered additional questions about her season (which was cut short due to injury). “We are doing really good. In the section we won every game except 3. Then in playoffs we won 10-0 on tuesday last week against Keystone oaks, and then on saturday last we played hopewell and won 6-1. On Tuesday this week we played against the best team in playoffs, and we won 2-1 over North Catholic and they are ranked #1 and they are ranked #5 and we won. Tomorrow we play Mt. Pleasant at HighMark Stadium 11am It is the WPIAL championship final. After the game on Saturday the play in States playoffs.”
