The Key Club is sponsoring a class change challenge in order to raise money for Caitlin’s Smiles. Caitlin’s Smiles is a Harrisburg-based charity that distributes arts and crafts materials to children in medical facilities.
Key Club treasurer Airah Shafiq says that Key Club chose to donate to Caitlin’s Smiles because they have been “trying to figure out a way to donate to them for a while, so [the change challenge] was just an opportunity.”
The club has placed signs and posters around the school to promote the challenge while each grade level has a bin in the library for donations. Each coin in the bucket adds one point to the grade’s overall score, while each bill subtracts one point, regardless of the monetary value.
The challenge will run until the end of the day on Friday, January 27th, when the winning grade will be determined. In the coming weeks, Key Club will give donuts to all members of the grade that wins the challenge.
The sophomore class is currently in the lead with 126 points. The seniors follow in second with about 3 dollars and 43 points. The freshmen and the juniors are both still at zero. Key Club has an open-ended goal in terms of money, but they are still hoping for more donations— “the bigger, the better!” remarks Airah.
The hard work and dedication to helping others from everyone in the Key Club are second to none. You all have so much talent and you take time from your lives to help and provide for others. I loved your article and thank you. -Tyler Hanny
Thanks so much for your feedback! I’m not a member of Key Club personally, but they all do some very impressive work and I’m glad that I got a chance to cover this story.
What motivated you to pick this charity
Hi! I’m not in Key Club, so I’m not sure exactly why they picked Caitlin’s Smiles beyond what I have written in the article. Someone in a more senior position in the club might know, but I chose not to interview them in an effort to get the article out before the competition was over. Thank you so much for your comment!
What made you pick Caitlin’s Smiles?
Hi! I’m not a member of Key Club, so I’m not sure of their exact reasons for picking a charity, besides that they had been trying to donate to it for a while. Thank you for your feedback!
Hello Emma,
I really enjoyed your article! I wondered if the challenge would be extended to the following week if there are no funds in the other grades. Your article was well-written and there were no grammar nor spelling mistakes! Great Job!
Thank you so much for your feedback; I’m glad you enjoyed the article! I’m also curious about whether or not the challenge will be extended so they can get more donations, but I think an extension is becoming a real possibility even with the updated scores from today.
Hello,
I’m glad you’re spreading the word of this. I hadn’t heard of this beforehand, and now I’ll start thinking of donating.
Thank you so much! I’m glad I could help spread the word.
Hi Emma! I think your article is very well written and gets right to the point. It is a really fantastic reason to be raising money for children’s hospitals.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I agree; Key Club did an excellent job choosing a meaningful charity to donate the proceeds to.
Thank you Emma for raising awareness about this fundraising event. And for showing us the current score, as I was unaware of the current score and will bring in some coins in the near future.
Thank you for your feedback! I’m glad I could help get the word out.
Hello,
I think that your article is very well written and gives a lot of details about the event. I was unaware of this event beforehand, and thank you and the key club for spreading awareness of this fundraiser. I think that this is a very smart idea of getting people to donate to the fundraiser.
i liked your article. The thought you have to spend your life helping others is amazing. thank you – Jordan H
This looks good, yet isn’t this another charity thing that every other school does(I’m talking 5-10 other schools)?
Its intentions are of course valiant, but will it really change the face of a hospital?
This is meaning a hospital of monumental scale. Not a hospital that is the scale of a 7/11.
I’m talking like, a Heinz history sized hospital.
I know people would argue that “A few cents would go a long way,” but at best “a few cents” could buy a very cheap scalpel.
UNLESS this is a large scale project thing that 50 other schools are doing, and not only 5.
That sounds more realistic not that I type this.
HHHMMMMMM, reconsidering.
