Freshman Auston Kosenovich joined junior Luke Hollywood at Altoona High School in March to compete in the PIAA regionals for wrestling.
Auston suggested it takes time to adjust in wrestling, which he started at 6 years old. This includes the shift from middle school to high school wrestling, and he finds it important to trust in the process, which at Avonworth led by coach Mr. Vulcano, who wrestled in high school and reached regionals as well.
Auston reached up to #5 in WPIALS before his match at Keystone Oaks in February. Wresting at the 114 weight class, he earned a dominant 13-1 major decision against Montour junior Jacob Stetz, placing 6th with made him qualify for regionals.
At Altoona, he gained valuable experience, winning one match to start before losing in the 2nd round. Even though Auston lost his second match, he gained more experience. Also, he learned what he has to improve on. To become a better athlete.
With 30 wins, Auston finished this season with the second most victories in school history by a freshman.
Also, Auston is only the 3rd freshman to qualify for regionals.
