“The track meet was a ton of fun,” said senior Laurel Purcell about the Butler Invitational on Friday, April 21st. “It was a very long day, but a lot of people on the team had some great PRs! Everyone ran very well and it was a great opportunity to be able to compete against some teams that we wouldn’t normally face in a section meet.”
A number of Lopes reached a new “PR”(personal record). Junior Brayden Simmons, another one of Avonworth’s track athletes, also surpassed his previous record. Brayden participates in the triple jump event. Sophomore Perry Velisaris, a thrower for the track team, also reached a PR. Perry, who just established a PR last week, competes in Javelin. He threw 85 feet, beating his previous record. This specific meet allowed our athletes to “compete against some teams that we normally wouldn’t face in a section meeting” and overall, “a lot of people on the team had some great PRs,” says Laurel.
