Earlier this afternoon, the Pirates made a blockbuster extension for 26-year-old star Bryan Reynolds. The official deal is 8 years, $106.75MM guaranteed which is by far the largest in franchise history.

Many fans are thrilled with this signing, considering the owner is not a fan of spending money.

Pirates fans in the school now were early in their elementary school days when Bob Nutting signed Marte, McCutcheon, and Polanco to real MLB contracts in the heydays of 13-14-15. Until the Hayes and Reynolds deals, the team has avoided any meaningful contracts for almost a decade.

With this being the best start of a season the Pirates have had in over 20 years, this gives the fans some comfort that they will have superstars on the roster in the future. It also signals a willingness to win now after years of constant losing.
