The 2023 NFL Draft was this past weekend, and the Steelers had a lot of missing holes, with them proving to us they were able to fill them.
Round 1 Pick 14 was Broderik Jones, an Offensive Tackle for Georgia, and arguably the 2nd best linemen in the draft behind Paris Johnson. He is 6’5 and 311 pounds, making him a very scary opponent to go up against.
Round 2 Pick 32 was Joey Porter Jr, son of steelers legend Joey Porter. He is a cornerback from Penn St, with being the 5th cb taken in the draft. The corners taken ahead of him were questionably worse than him, so it is a steal to get him in the 2nd round.
Round 2 Pick 49 was Keaanu Benton, an inside defensive linemen who played at Wisconsin. A gap that has yet to be filled since Hargrave left for the Eagles needs to be figured out, and with the aging Cam Heyward, Benton may have a bigger role in the future.
Round 3 Pick 93 was Darnell Washington, a Tight End for Georgia. He was a top draft prospect for many teams, having a height of 6’7 and weighing in at 269. He unfortunately is injury prone, which is why he dropped this far.
Round 4 pick 132 was Nick Herbig, an Outside Line Backer for Wisconsin. He isĀ 6’2, and 227 pounds, which does mean he can get pushed. With this size however, he is fast and able to get around the defensive line easier than others.
Round 7 pick 241 was Cory Trice Jr, a corner from Purdue. Cory can bring a lot of depth to the Steelers secondary, as he is 6’3 and 206 pounds. He is a good tackler, but lacks in coverage, which may be an issue if he starts.
Round 7 pick 251 was Spencer Anderson, an Offensive Guard from Maryland. He is 6’5 320 pounds, with being a great tackler, yet lacks movement. He will add great depth for the Steelers offense, yet is not ready to be a starter.
Omar Khan, or, “The Khan Artist” is the Steelers new General Manager, and is already very well liked among fans and staff. He has an aggressive style, and is not afraid to make risky moves to get players we need. Overall, I would give Omar Khan and this Draft class an A+, as this is one of the better draft class we have seen in years.
