Starting in August 2023, LEAD will move to lunches and mod A will become, for many, the first period of the day. For the remaining 9th through 11th grade students at school throughout the last weeks, LEAD offered students a chance to wake up, prep for finals, purchase coffee from The Lopes Lounge, complete homework for the upcoming day, and ease into the classes ahead. Students in Band and Chorus would meet during this time, and Beattie students were on site on their campus during this time. Officially held during MOD A, LEAD ran from 8 Am until 8:40. Seniors were able to skip LEAD and arrive for the start of MOD B, and for those seniors who started at MOD C, a first class would often start closer to 9:30 AM.
Students will return in August 2023 to a new MOD system labeled A through J, highlighting the 45 minute MOD option that was often overshadowed by course selections such as the Integrated 9 and 10 courses, which ran across two MODS. Many students may find themselves in an AP class, CHS class, or academic class starting at 8 AM. This has not been an offered option since the 2017-2018 school year, when students met for 45 minute long periods.
Students could gather in the Middle School Cafe with friends, pictured above, as well as move around and head to lockers and classrooms to meet with teachers for extra teaching.
Student reaction is clear:
“I don’t like it at all because I have to get to school at 8 and I am not really ready to do work when I am tired and just woke up.” said sophomore Eli Gardiner. “I like to take the time to do homework for classes I have in that day.”
“I don’t really feel any type of way towards the changes”
I don’t really like the changes. I don’t like the idea of having to park in the school parking lot and walking through the traffic.
I think that it will be very beneficial. It will give us a better and more modern place to learn. This will be even more helpful for the upcoming 7th graders.
I dont like that they moved lead. I’m only productive in the morning
The only change that affects me is the change of lead time. I dont like it in the middle of the day.
