The Sanders family-led Colorado buffaloes are now off to a 3-0 start after beating Colorado State 43-35 in 2OT in the 92nd annual meeting of the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
Colorado Football is by far the biggest story in all of college football at the moment as Deion Sanders continues to show why he can go from such a small program, and jump to a big one while continuing to win. After making a statement and beating last year’s runner-up TCU in their opener, and soundly defeating Nebraska, it was time for the in-state rivalry against the Rams of Colorado State. As expected, there was a bunch of back and forth between the two programs including Coach Jay Norvell of CSU, and Deion “primetime” Sanders. Norvell took a shot at Sanders’s swag saying, “When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.” Coach Prime responded by claiming the game was “personal’’ to him and his team now. The beef continued into game day, as the two teams met at midfield during pregame jawing back and forth before being separated.

Colorado State did not come in scared one bit. Out the gates, the Buffaloes struck first from a Shilo Sanders pick-6 that he took to the house for 80 yards. The Rams then scored 14 unanswered points including a scoop and score fumble for 45 yards. At halftime, CSU managed to maintain a 21-14 lead. Although, this wasn’t the main story in the first half. Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter took a huge blow late in the first quarter by Colorado State defender Henry Blackburn. Hunter was then taken to the hospital and would be ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Late in the 4th Quarter, the Rams held a 28-20 lead and pinned Colorado back at their own 2-yard line. Shedeur led his team 98 yards down the field to tie the game and head into OT. The game went into 2OT where Colorado eventually ended up winning 43-35 in a thriller.
Although fans didn’t like the outcome, Colorado State should be heading back to Fort Collins proud of how they played in Boulder. As for the Buffaloes, they have their biggest test of the year heading up west to Eugene to play Bo Nix and the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks especially with Travis Hunter being sidelined.
